I just picked this up from an estate sale for $20. I thought it looked interesting and my father probably had one of these(he is 91 this year). I thought it would make a nice gift for him. I tested it before I bought it but only to see that it still moved etc. I found an old record in the compartment in the lid and tried to play it but it just slowed down and stopped when I put the needle down. When I crank the handle it feels like when it's getting wound tight something (I think the spring) let's go. And some of the tension is gone. The outside of the box is in pretty worn condition. Is it worth trying to repair it?
