Decking the bridge?

Hey folks, I have an old cheap crappy squire strat and I absolutely love it! I’ve had it since I was a teenager and I have somewhat of an emotional connection to it. However, it has a tremolo bridge that gives it really bad tuning stability. I read somewhere on the internet that you can “deck” the bridge and block out the tremolo stuff which would be great because I don’t use it. Don’t even have a whammy bar.

Has anyone tried this? What is the level of complexity? Would I be easily able to source parts for it if required?
