Hey everyone,

Edited:(Video link is in the comment section)video link

I recently moved to Trier from abroad to start my Master's in Engineering, and I just got the keys to my new place! It’s a möbliert (furnished) WG Zimmer (shared apartment room).

Since it’s my first time setting up a room here, I’m feeling a bit lost on how to arrange everything. I’m attaching some photos and a video so you can get a feel for the space.

As you can see, the room comes with some bulky existing furniture:

A massive wooden wardrobe/shelving unit that takes up a lot of wall space. A small white desk. A single bed and a big mattress.

What I need help with:

The Bed Dilemma: Should I just buy a bigger bed frame? If I do that, do you think I could repurpose the current, smaller bed as a sofa/seating area? Or would that make the room way too cramped?

Layout: Where should I actually place the bed(s) and the desk? Right now, everything feels a bit randomly placed.

Maximizing Space: How can I best utilize that giant wooden shelving unit without it looking cluttered? Right now my pots, pans, and groceries are just living on it.

Comfort & Vibe: The room feels pretty bare and clinical right now. I’ll be spending a lot of time here studying and chilling (big anime and hip-hop fan, so I'd love to display some posters or set up a nice speaker vibe eventually). What are some affordable ways to make this space feel warm and comfortable?

I’m open to any rearranging ideas, storage hacks, or suggestions for cheap additions (rugs, lamps, plants) I should pick up.

Thanks in advance for the help.
