First Metric Century

50 year old 240lb dude who didn’t take the best care of himself, but trying.

Started riding 11 months ago, and I wasn’t consistent mostly due to work, and still have a lot of consistency issues. Did 40 miles twice this year, then hammered out a 50. Did a 45 mile gravel race that was pretty rough (a coworker who’s done a dozen triathlons said it was the hardest thing he’s ever done). More 45’s and now a 62 miler!

I’m probably doing the one thing you shouldn’t be doing, which is not riding at all during the week then knocking out a 40+ mile ride on Saturdays. Cause for the last six weeks that’s all I’ve done.

Two weeks from now heading down to Kentucky to take part in the HorseyHundred, won’t be hitting the century yet, I’m in flat Illinois and 6,000 ft of elevation would straight up kill me.

Do have one question or two! If I can sort myself out to ride a few days a week, what should I be looking for in terms of mileage? 10-15m, 15-20m? I’m wanting to do at leave 50 every Saturday during the summer months.

How normal is this? When I finish a big ride like that, Theragun for like 10 minutes and I’m fine. I mean I can feel the muscles, but they don’t slow me down or really hurt.

Oh ya, Topstone 1 alloy with Schwalbe G-One RS PRO 700c.

Nice little bottle I need to crack open one day.

Pretty sure I bought it in 2006 or 07, but not 100% sure.
