Study tips

As someone who felt in nursing school like they need to have all the content memorized to do well on tests, what is your advice for CRNA school? obviously the content amount is huge and there's no way I can memorize the entirety of a powerpoint like I did in nursing school. active recall worked for me then, going through the slides and reciting what was on it. I feel like if I can't remember the content that way and be confident in it, ill get to the test and get confused and blank on the content and therefore not know how to answer the question correctly. that's why I haven't taken the CCRN yet, because I obviously can't memorize the entire critical care specialty so im nervous im going to fail especially when its 150 questions.

how do you guys study with such vast and large amounts of content? how many tests do you have in school per class in a semester? I feel like clinical is going to wipe me physically and mentally and idk if I'll be able to come home and study for so long. I just don't know if im cut out for this

Relationships in crna school

How do you manage a relationship with a significant other (just dating not married) while in school if you don’t live together. How often do you see your partner? Fearful that I won’t see them often and they will lose feelings and will not understand the rigor of the program. I understand for them it would suck to see your partner maybe like once a month for three years. but I want to be a crna more than anything so how am I supposed to deal with that?

Also feeling pressure to hurry up and go back to school so that I can get married and have kids before 30 because I don’t want to do either while in school. Does anyone have any advice on any of this. Sincerely, person feeling sad.

Just a few questions from an ICU RN looking to apply! If anyone has advice on any of these, even if just 1, any advice is much appreciated.

  1. I don't have charge or preceptor experience (still a newer nurse on the unit) and my hospital has nurses hired solely for rapid/code team. Will not having any of that hurt my application? Was thinking of working as a nurse mentor online, could that make up for it & show leadership?

  2. Anyone know how to go about being a rapid infuser or EPIC super user? How bout getting an EBP published in a nursing journal?

  3. Some certifications I'm looking into: burn ACLS, CNRN, SCRN, ENLS. Are these worth it for the CV?

  4. Was thinking of starting an evidence-based journal club, would that look good? How bout joining a skin audit team on my unit?

Thanks everyone. Best of luck to anyone else who wants to apply.

hello! I want to learn about politics in anesthesia and the CRNA world so that I can know what im talking about in an interview. what are some topics about this that I should know?

all I can think of is a CRNA independently practicing, or working under an anesthesiologist.

thanks everyone!

Hey everyone,

im looking for resources to study for the TCRN. here's what I've found through research. has anyone used any of these?

Pamela Bartley's book on amazon

Jeff Solheim: he has the lecture videos you can purchase and the practice tests but all of it is expensive.

also found a review book with practice questions by Kendra Kent on amazon for $62

finally, the BCEN website has a review course for $250 and a practice exam for $50

just not sure what to spent money on and I don't want to break the bank

also looking for resources for the CSC and CMC. have no idea where to start with those.

thank you all in advance!

Hey everyone,

I joined reddit to post this. I've been a nurse 2 years, beating myself up because I haven't started doing anything to put on my resume for school, despite knowing ive wanted to be a CRNA since high school. ive been on nights since I got off orientation 1.5 years ago, I started in ICU. im tired all the time which makes me lazy and unmotivated. but I can't go back in time to change that, so I just have to start working now. I got my BSN right after high school, started working in ICU right away. so I'm young, but wanna be done with school before I get married, travel, then have kids, so I need to get the ball rolling. hoping to apply in 1-1.5 years, but I still need CCRN, TCRN, CSC, volunteering, joining organizations/going to meetings, shadowing, LORs, getting involved on my unit, you name it - everything.

I just have a bunch of random questions about what I should be doing for my resume to get in. im going to list them, if anyone would feel free to put input on any of them I would appreciate it so, so much. I feel lonely in this journey and have nobody to ask questions to. I know it's a lot, but any input is extremely valuable to me.

thank you in advance.

  1. on my CV, do I put the date for certifications that I earn, or when they expire? (example: CCRN, obtained 2026, expires 2029). how about for organizations I join? (example: AACN, joined April 2026)

  2. I need to take organic chemistry and retake anatomy and physiology. how can I find courses online for those? I need 5 credits for anatomy and physiology if I take it in one class. and what's the difference between taking it at a graduate level / advanced? im just not sure I know what that means and I don't know how to find a course.

  3. does it still look good on my CV if I attend NTI/AANA conferences virtually? I know I'll miss out on networking in person, but does it stand out to schools that I have drive and passion to learn about the profession by attending even if only virtually?

  4. I did an EBP at work. how do I go about getting it published? no idea where to start with that process. is having work published in a journal something to stand out?

  5. I have no experience as charge, precepting, or rapid response/code team (my hospital has specific nurses employed on rapid team). would that harm my resume? would it look good if I took a nursing student instead? what about if a high school student shadowed me at work?

  6. anyone that's been accepted, what is something that you think made you stand out on your resume? im terrified I won't get into school and want to maximize my resume as much as possible.

  7. micro credentials offered through the AACN: ventilator exam, sepsis exam. certifications through the ANA: infection control, pain management. are any of these worth it to get? or do schools only care about CCRN, CMC, etc. I am an anxious test taker and these are all $$$

  8. If I attended a meeting at my state's congress would that look good on a resume? or if I called congress and asked them to pass a certain nursing bill, could I put that on my resume, and how would I write that I did it?

  9. would it look good on a resume to join the national league for nursing? or the American association for nursing leadership? or do schools not care about just being a member. do they want to see you active in an organization?

  10. would it look good to be an online nurse mentor? how about an EPIC super user?

thank you again for any help if you read any of this. if there's anyone else out there struggling like me, you're not alone. just looking for any help or support I can get.
