Raise negotiation

Been at current job for ~1.5 years and love it. Supervising physician is great. Head boss is pretty bad at communicating but overall has been nice. I emailed about asking for a raise about one month ago and just finally heard back as they hired a new HR person that handles raises, whatever it’s fine. Generally people have been getting $5 in raises (this company has been notorious for being stingy with raises and multiple have left due to lack of/minimal raises).

Well they finally got back to me….they’re giving me a $2 raise… Now I know I was just complaining that they hadn’t responded for a month but a $2 raise…in this economy…is downright insulting

I guess my question is do I take the $2 like a good little boy or do I counter? From the way the email was written it seemed like a “given our set pay scale accordances this is we can give and that’s it”.

I pick up more than anyone and have trained multiple new people. In the email they actually mentioned how given what I’ve received in incentives and bonuses, my year-to-date average hourly rate is much higher than my base rate. That right there is confusing as why is that even something to be worth mentioned when discussing pay raises? Should I be angry?! I feel like I should be angry..

I’m wading my way through the Wheel of Time series and after sort of a disappointing first 3/4th of the book, the Fires of Heaven has such a powerful ending that totally has me hyped for the next book
