From 42 to 71 in PTE: What Actually Worked for Me (Real Exam Experience)

First of all, I’m not an expert and I didn’t score 90. But based on what I understood, practiced, and experienced over the last 4 months, I was able to improve my score from 42 in my first mock test (December) to 71 overall in my actual PTE exam. So I just want to share what worked for me:

  1. It’s just an exam. Focus on understanding how PTE scoring works, especially which tasks carry more weight and which don’t.

  2. If you’re a non-native English speaker like me, start watching movies or series in English. Every language begins with listening, then speaking and writing. In PTE, strong listening skills help you remember content and take notes for speaking and writing sections.

  3. Consistent practice is key.

  4. After the recent changes, templates almost don’t work anymore. Instead, focus on understanding essay topics. Think on your own, write answers, and improve them using tools like ChatGPT. Try writing at least one essay daily.

  5. Speaking content and fluency are very important.

  6. In reading, focus on understanding the passage. Eliminate incorrect options using logic and grammar, then choose the best fit.

  7. Most importantly, believe in yourself.

- Websites for practice:

  1. ApeUni ( I used )

  2. AlphaPTE

  3. Gurully

- YouTube channels:

  1. Language Academy

  2. SKILLS PTE ACADEMIC

  3. Ritika PTE Prep ( have collocation and words)

  4. Storm EduGo ( have good reading videos)

- One of the best resources:

ChatGPT , use it to improve your essays or understand why an answer is correct.

- If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I’ll try to answer based on my experience and understanding.
