Hi guys!
So, I'm (transmasculine guy) writing a romantasy novel that is basically a reverse cinderella story with a trans main character as the focus of the story. It's about him coming to terms with his past and growing as a person while falling in love with the love interest. It switches from each of their povs in third person for each chapter. My main dilemma is that the story doesn't have some major conflict like a love triangle and, while my mc's identity as a trans guy is important, it's not a major plot conflict of the story and he doesn't have any insecurity about his identity beyond the standard fear that the knowledge of it will scare off the love interest (but it does not). The story is only about him coming to his past and the pair slowly falling in love with each other.
My main question is that does the story need some major conflict like a love triangle or him initially not being accepted? Admittedly, I don't want either elements, but most of the books I have read do have those things. Can it just be a love story with the pair falling in love with a happy ending and only internal conflict? It is very whimsical and fairy tale like and, like I said before, the main conflict is simply the mc having to come to terms with his past and grow in his confidence as a person.
EDIT: Hi y'all! Thank you so much for the responses. I want to state that what I meant by my question was that I usually only read non-cozy romantasy stories so, for some reason, I got it in my very sleep deprived head (and my vision is very blurry right now so I'm trying not to have too many typos and make sense) that because I didn't have conflict like a love triangle and my mc coming to terms with his trans identity, that my conflict wasn't major. I do have conflict in my story which I will work to expand on and I am aware stories need conflict. Sorry for the confusion and I really appreciate all the comments. I'm trying my best to respond to each one with something that makes sense.
