Hey ya'll I've been feeling kind of bummed because the past 6 trial lessons I had, none of them subscribed. Obviously this will make my conversion rate tank and I'm doomed forever.

Most would assume that conversion is linked a tutor's performance, but I did the exact same things from January - April, and my conversion rate was around 80%. And also in general I think I provide satisfactory lessons for most students, see attached.

What I noticed was that recently, I seemed to get a lot of students who were unserious - like ones who already knew for sure that they wouldn't subscribe. Most of them mentioned that they just wanted to talk to me because they liked my accent.

And yes in my bio I ask people to message me before they book a trial, most of them do. We send a few messages back and forth beforehand just so I can be prepared and if I can help them with what they're looking for. But still, I think I'm getting unserious students.

I wonder if I'm just unlucky and getting a bad bunch. I also know that Preply sometimes does promotions where students can take trial lessons for free, which could lead to more students wanting just a one-off lesson. Is anyone else experiencing something like this?

FOR TUTORS

Hypothetical: What would you do if, during a trial lesson, a student openly said they don’t plan to subscribe? They explained that they booked the trial just to have a one‑off conversation with a native speaker.

Would you just continue with the lesson and teach? Would you explain the policies? Be kind ya'll I'm just curious to see how yall would react.
