I broke my ankle on Mothers Day walking the dog with my family. X-Rays showed it to be stable so had a boot for 3 weeks and was genuinely very positive. I was experiencing no pain, and was mobile even without crutches. Attended my next Orthopaedic appointment, and the X-Ray showed l did in fact have displacement and instability, and a scan showed severe ligament damage, and ended up needing ORIF surgery. The recovery process mentally in all this, far out weighs the injury itself. The lack of mobility, loss of independance, and shere exhaustion that you just cant explain to people, who havent experienced it. Its absolutely brutal. I just wish the medical teams did more to explain and prepare you for the mental toll and impact it has, because its extremely isolating and debilitating. Social Media support groups have been a life saver mentally. I guess l just wanted to rant, and let others in the same position know, the mental toll its taking on you is 100% justified, valid, and your not alone!
