What was the effect of the change from 15-point rally scoring to 11 points?
I’m curious to hear from people who were following the pro scene at the time of the switch from 15-point scoring to 11-point scoring. How did it (seem to) affect the game, players, and tactics? Did it achieve its goals? What was the community feeling in the run up to the change?
The Badminton World Federation is considering a change from 21-point rally scoring to 15-point rally scoring. In the badminton community (on Reddit, at least), the idea isn’t very popular, with all manner of supposed negative effects claimed to be likely. I know that squash made a similar switch, in our case from 15 to 11 points, but I only started following the pro scene in the early years of the 11-point era, and as a player, at my level we switched straight from point scoring to 9 to rally scoring to 11, so I don’t really have any point of comparison.
