And I’m sick of it. I always lamented the differences between men and women. Women get the short end of the biological stick with menstruation and menopause and childbirth and post partum and I used to boo hoo about it. Now I have a sort of reverence for the differences and even see the beauty in it, but what really gets me is how these facts of life are used *against* women. “Women are too emotional, they’ll start wars on their periods.” “A woman’s place is at home with the children.”

A man can get poor treatment for a plethora of things: too short, too poor, too ugly. But it seems there‘s always this baseline level of respect that women are not afforded. I see this corroborated by trans men who tell the same jokes, the same stories, and are somehow seen as funnier? More interesting? Worthy of being listened to? And what changed… (likely their confidence, yes) but the biggest component is gender.

There are mountains of intersectionality arguments that can be made (economic status, looks, race, sexuality) but I’m speaking anecdotally people. I’m tired of watching women have to prove their worth outside of looking good and giving birth. There’s so much more
