Hi Everyone,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I’ve been doing (non-union) residential carpentry for the last 4 years and want to make the move to Union commercial work. I’m graduating the Pre-Apprenticeship class at the union training center tomorrow.
I don’t call in, I’m early, live in Detroit, can read a tape, have tools, have a good attitude, am coachable, have a vehicle, OSHA 30, MEWPS certification, tools/bag, etc.
I’m just missing that one important piece to the puzzle.. some work.
I took the Math test (scored well) and am interviewing for the apprenticeship in 2 weeks. I’m registered for the hiring combine at Comerica park in May.
I am going to make it a point to stop by all the contractors with offices in Detroit in the next week.
Everyone I’ve spoken at the training center (BA’s) with has said things are “slow, but should be picking up soon”.
Hoping someone might know of an opportunity for a 40 year old apprentice that will bust his ass, everyday.
Even a specific job site to show up to. Early. With my tools and lunch.
Thank you all very kindly in advance for reading all of this.
