I recently applied for a remote position from a company called Blink Transportations LLC via Handshake. I went through an "interview" process which was just a Microsoft form page. The "employer", named Daryl, emailed me to let me know I was being selected for the job. I was excited by seemingly great news, I even got to sign the offer letter (which apparently was a huge mistake now that I realize)

The thing is, this company is telling me a check will be issued on my name to buy the required equipment. I already told the employer I don't need the equipment package because I have the essential tech at home, but he insists.

This is what he replied: "Our company policy requires employees to order new set of equipment and a recommended sets from the our contracted suppliers as they will already have all the necessary tools you may need for your work installed and set up. The company will provide funding by sending you a check to cover the cost of the equipment and the setup of your office space. If you are interested in proceeding with this process, please let me know so we can move forward." I replied, quote unquote, "I will think about it."

Then, I copy-pasted his message onto google, AI overview and a reddit post already told me it's an obvious scam. The thing is the company seems legit and I am very unsure on what to do. I am very desperate for a job and that's why I was reckless enough to accept. But now I need y'all's help to know if I made a mistake.

TLDR; I applied to a remote job via Handshake, I took an "interview" which is really just a form. Then the company accepted me, then sent me an offer letter which I signed, I later asked if I can simply reject the equipment package since I already have the equipment at home, but employer insists, saying it's required for the company to issue checks to new hires for equipment. I am unsure of what to do.

UPDATE: I have politely told the scammer to fuck off and blocked his email. Good riddance. I am both relieved and disappointed on the outcomes.
