Do bioinformatics/computational biology labs accept volunteers from outside the u? I graduated about 4 years ago from a different university but have an interest in computational biology and learning more about it while contributing to research.

My background is in math/physics and I work in tech so I am more familiar with the computing side than the biology side. I have been teaching myself with online sources and trying to work through literature like synthetic biology a primer to better understand the bio side, but would like to be in a more directed lab environment again (plus access to large scale computing/datasets to work with would be nice).

Also looking for good resources/literature recommendations for further self study.
