Hi there, first time poster, have been lurking for a while and hoping for a steer.
I'm a 40M, home owner with long term mortgage in place (until I'm 67 ish I think), recently switched to 3.2% fixed with AIB Green rate and house is A2, no major complaints there, about 1120 between myself and my wife (we have one 2 year old kid, possibly plan for another next year). Rural in 3 bed semi d.
I'd love to change the car but practically, I don't have a need to do so (172 Skoda Octavia 1lt petrol, nothing crazy).
Bills like subscriptions and utilities fairly well in check, in contract for internet, electricity, on the OG Gomo 9.99, freesat/saorview for telly etc.
Possibly thinking of getting Solar PV (with battery) in, no quotes yet but I think it'd be at least 10k. Thinking behind it, it pays for itself in lowering bills and microgen.
Wages, about 2.7k net every month, rising to about 5k net once every quarter if I made commission (not guaranteed, I usually get it). Outside of personal spending, I transfer 340 a week to a joint account for mortgage and bills. Pension is in OK state, started when I was approx 32, initially 5% + 5% matched by employer, added 5% AVC for last few years and maxed out the AVC for my age start of this year. Job is safe for now but might change due to upper management decisions and possibly AI down the line.
Have give or take 50k savings in my personal AIB current bank account, I usually do the bulk of my day to day spending from my Revolut but wages are going to my AIB. I'd be open to suggestions of moving my funds to something that earns interest, preferably one that takes DIRT at source for more hassle free. Have a AIB credit card but I'd consider getting rid of this and going debit card only. Would something like Revolut Metal make sense and ditch AIB? Any bank switch reliably switch your DDs or are you best of to do that yourself?
Any advice would be much appreciated!
