BMW 118i EfficientDynamics (2011) Bluetooth issue – can this be solved with BimmerCode/coding?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 2011 BMW 118i EfficientDynamics (E87 LCI) and I’m trying to figure out the Bluetooth situation.

The garage told me the car should support hands-free calling, but I can’t find any Bluetooth menu or pairing option anywhere in the radio/iDrive system. Bluetooth audio streaming also doesn’t work.

Before I start buying modules or adapters, I wanted to ask here:

•	Is it possible Bluetooth is present but disabled and can be enabled through coding/BimmerCode?

•	Did some E87 models only support phone calls but not Bluetooth audio?

•	Which modules/options should I check first (MULF/Combox/etc.)?

•	Can BimmerCode help with enabling A2DP audio streaming, or is additional hardware always required?

•	What’s the cleanest OEM-style solution people usually go for on these cars?

I’d prefer to keep the original system if possible instead of installing an aftermarket screen/head unit.

Thanks!

Bluetooth issues in BMW 118i EfficientDynamics (2011) – best solution for calls + music?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a BMW 1 Series 118i EfficientDynamics from 2011, and I’m trying to figure out my Bluetooth options.

The garage told me the car has Bluetooth and that hands-free calling should work, but I can’t find any Bluetooth menu or pairing option anywhere in the iDrive/radio settings. Bluetooth audio streaming also doesn’t seem to work. Tel button does not give any response in the menu

So I’m wondering:

•	Did these models come with Bluetooth only for phone calls?

•	Is it possible the car doesn’t actually have Bluetooth despite what the garage said?

•	How can I check which module/options my car has installed?

•	What are the best modern solutions in 2026 for getting both hands-free calling and music streaming?

I’m open to:

•	OEM upgrades

•	coding/programming

•	aftermarket Bluetooth modules

•	AUX/USB adapters

•	complete replacement head units/screens

Main thing is that it works reliably and still feels somewhat integrated with the car.

Thanks in advance!
