So recently I joined a rational discussion GC, and today a discussion about Bengal and the safety issues associated with Muslims living in the state started. One guy kept talking about how Islam has too much radicalisation. I agreed, and also added that all organised religions create extremism in society for political or personal benefits and monetary gains, and have caused a lot of injustice.

I also mentioned that despite coming from a Muslim background, I’m agnostic by choice and consider myself spiritual. But because of my name, this guy kept tagging me and sending religious texts even though I repeatedly said I’m agnostic and follow the law of the land, not what any scripture says.

He then claimed I’m Muslim because I have a “soft corner” for them and that I’m trying to convert others. My only point was that all organised religions harbour extremists and that we need to condemn all forms of extremism.

In the end, I was accused of saying “taqiya is best,” even though I never said anything like that.

As we’ve seen in the recent Bengal elections, the BJP gave a ticket to Dr. Abhaya’s mother, almost two years after the brutal murder of a doctor in the very hospital where she worked. The participation of such a candidate gives hope that Dr. Abhaya might finally receive true justice.

But if we are to believe that the BJP’s intentions are genuinely rooted in justice and not just in gaining power through a sensitive issue, then a question naturally follows: when will the same urgency be shown in cases like Hathras, Unnao, Ankita Bhandari, and Bilkis Bano?

And if addressing all of these feels like too much to ask, then at the very least, is the party willing to remove convicted rapists from within its own ranks? That would be a real step toward building public trust.

If justice and safety, the bare minimum every citizen deserves, are going to be politicized, then the least that can be ensured is that they are actually implemented, consistently and without bias.

Isn’t Tmc so unbearable with local goons and west bengal police under their control

meanwhile bjp has control over ec, cbi, ed and after winning they’ll also have control over west bengal police as well
