I'm only through the # and letter A games (about 200) tested so far, and out of those 200, only 1 contained malware: Assassin's Creed Valhalla. The "original" executable that comes with it is about 270MBs or so and when you run it it creates a 570MBs or so executable (which is the correct one, probably the 270MB is a zip file of some sort) and it also creates a script that runs once daily disguised as google update daily. This script runs an ad so the "hacker" gets some money. It's malware, really, rather than data stealing info.
What I noticed so far is this:
-Steamunlocked is the safest
-Steamrip is very good - the complaint I have about them is that their rips are incomplete and outdated compared to Steamunlocked and often lack DLCs
Steamunlocked data so far:
-about 200 games tested (#s and As) - I tested only the games that appealed to me, not all of the #s and As
-1 contained malware (AC Valhalla)
-a few dozen were blocked by AntiVirus, which is rather expected of denuvo-bypassing cracks (EMP.dll being the most common one) - of course, EMP.dll could really do anything once enabled, including stealing your data, so it's up to you to trust whoever releases EMP.dll
Steamrip:
-Only tested a handful, some failed to work properly or even start whereas their Steamunlocked counterpart worked fine
I have a pop-up blocker, and I've read that people click on pop-ups or something on Steamunlocked which gives them viruses or the like, so maybe that's why, but I never experienced a pop-up due to the blocker.
I spent a ton of money a long time ago when I had a job buying games from Steam, but a few years back I realized from stories that you never own what you pay for. So that really bothered me, since I come from a time where you used to go to the store, buy a CD and own the game forever, it was yours and yours alone. Now with platforms like Steam you pretty much pay the full game price for access only. That's disgusting.
Anyway, Steamunlocked is the way to go. I know it's a bit of a platform itself since it gets its games from the original crackers, but hey, it works, and you just gotta spot the bad one like AC Valhalla that tries to cheat you.
