I joined this sub to offer help and guidance as I’ve been dirt poor unable to eat in the past. A couple things I’ve found recently can really help a lot of people.
https://www.toogoodtogo.com/en-us is an app to find cheap food that places offer deep discounts on food that they otherwise would throw away, usually its end of day food from bakery’s and ready to eat restaurants, as well I see Whole Foods puts out boxes of stuff that is very close to the sell by dates, so it’s still edible. I saw one box for like $15 that normally be close to $100.
https://www.textnow.com/wireless
I’ve never used this service, but I see their adds all the time, free calling and text, free data for apps like email maps and ride share, daily unlimited data for a couple bucks.
I have Walmart plus, it’s like $100 a year, but you save 10 cents on gas at mobile Murphy and Walmart gas stations, free subscription for paramount or peacock, which itself is 100ish on it’s own. Free shipping and delivery, a free whopper at BK,
I recommend using delivery or curbside pickup instead of going in the store ( exception is produce) always pick your own.
Meal plan, or find a meal subscription, they look expensive to start, but they are cheaper in the long run.
Refinance a car payment if you can, get on your utilities websites and look for fixed payments, your bill will be the same for awhile.
I switched from Verizon t mobile got $800 in visa gift cards, if you have Verizon which I did with a free phone if I stayed, freeze the line so it’s still “active” but you don’t pay anything.
If you are employed at Walmart use the employee fund through HR, it’s a 1 time use thing.
If you end up in the hospital a lot, get critical illness insurance through your employer, it’s usually very cheap and covers everyone on your insurance, but you get a cash settlement every time.
Go to thrift stores ( not goodwil) find things you can resell on Facebook, i bought a bunch of nerf guns for $2 and sold them for $5-10. Go through your house and do the same, you can sell old clothes, kids toys, just about anything.
This one is controversial, find a local church that has a good gathering (preferably not catholic) start going meet people, there’s a lot that are willing to help with some stuff. My church had put people in hotels, paid utility bills, when someone is sick or has something going on, they organize meal trains. When my wife was in the hospital, someone came over and watched our kids, brought over dinner when we got home, started to deep clean things and finished the laundry.
I really hope someone here finds this useful, sometimes someone just needs help getting the information because they don’t know where to look or things aren’t advertised enough.
