Hi tableau reddit community,
I have a question regarding published data sources and, workbooks and permissions. Below is a rough flow of my setup.
A tableau prep flow on the server runs and generates a published data source which is an extract I assume.
I connect to this published data source for a workbook in tableau desktop and the data source pane shows something like this where the connection type is "live"
- When publishing the workbook to the server, users are unable to view the dashboard and they run into the error "Forbidden Action: You are not authorized to perform this action. (20) To access this workbook, you must have the Connect permission for its data source."
From what I understand, viewers of the workbook need to have the connect permission to the data source to view the workbook, however, I do not want users to have the ability to connect and use my data source. Is there a way to do this?
Secondly, when publishing the workbook with the data source, I can select between "Embedded Password" and "Prompt User". I would like to choose not to embed password due to some reasons. Does selecting "Prompt User" mean that users would need to key in their credentials every time they want to view the workbook?
Appreciate the help!
