Should I really stop identifying plants with my mouth?

I will find a plant and look it up. Once I have a vague idea of what it might be, I break the stem open and sniff, hoping for bitter or no, depending. If I am fairly confident it isn't poisonous I'll taste it to be sure. Today, I identified wood sorrel!
