So my son graduates HS next year. Like myself, he is bright but has ADHD so sometimes struggles to keep it together.
I graduated college in 2006 with a BS in biology. We had strong liberal arts curriculum so even my non-science classes were also quite interesting and challenging. I recall how much reading I had. From reading several chapters in a novel in two days and being required to take notes for points, to deep discussions on the readings in philosophy class, to prereading several chapter in my science textbooks before class (bio, chem, physics to more advanced life science classes), labs with detailed lab reports due in CBE format.
We did have a few content heavy classes where the professor had pre made PowerPoints they shared (and I printed them and made notes on them in class), but we usually just were lectured and took copious notes.
I keep reading articles about textbooks being all digital, not required, students being unable to read such large amounts so class requirements have adjusted.
What are classes structured like these days and what type of content are students given to facilitate that?
