I know this is probably a dumb question but when it comes to cleaning the plant leaves inside the tank do I leave that for the cleanup crew?

For this Anubis, how can i get the brown and to stop on the leaves? I thought Anubis was great under water, am i incorrect? (ignore the bowl inside the tank)

I have midnight pearl substrate in my tank, for plants that are in substrate, should i add or do anything else with the substrate?
