worried for dental surgery

My cat got diagnosed with FIV today right before he was supposed to be sedated for dental surgery. I came in the previous day because I was worried about his oral health, and the doctor recommended cleaning with extractions. They ran blood tests and they all turned out to be normal.

Today we didn't continue the surgery because my vet wanted us to think about the post-op risks. They say the healing process would be difficult, and since he's asymptomatic right now, he might become "symptomatic" after the operation. I decided to move the surgery to Thursday instead of stopping it all together, as I was worried teeth infection and gingivitis can progress and soon become systemic if not treated soon (especially if he develops stomatitis). He's on an immunomodulator med and an antibiotic for his teeth. I'm really worried with what they said about post-op though. I don't know what to expect.

He's indoor (is terrified of going out, prob because he was a kitty during the pandemic) and eats primarily wet food.

Does anyone have any advice or any experience?

I live in Southeast Asia.

Upd: I'm going into this with more confidence now but I'm still going to be wary of the (small) risks associated with anesthesia, FIV+ or not. Sorry if this post seemed a little dramatic, I just wanted real testimonies and advice especially since I had a cat who died last year from kidney issues. Thank you for all your comments!
