Is this mold/mildew on the inside of the cold water supply line to my washing machine?
I had an extensive orange/yellow color mold/mildew issue with my previous front loading GE washer due to keeping the door and tray closed for three years (I didn’t realize it was necessary to remove the tray and keep the door open as I had a top loader before).
I got a new GE washer yesterday, but maintenance ran one cycle with the old hot and cold water supply lines before I asked them to hook up the new supply lines that came with it the next day. I asked them if the old supply lines could have been contaminated and they said no because its only clean water that comes through. Worried about contamination, I kept the old supply lines and cut them open. The cold had this whitish buildup you see pictured.
The hot supply line had a thinner film that resulted in the above residue on the paper towel when wiping across it (last 5 pictures) ? I'm hoping its just mineral buildup or residue from rubber deterioration but probably that is wishful thinking. Did running one cycle with the old supply lines just reseed my brand new washer with mold/mildew?
I will of course spray it down with bleach and run a bleach and Affresh tablet tub clean but I cant access the area above the dispenser tray where the water comes through. That is where the mold/mildew always came down from before because I couldn't clean that area. Should I disconnect the supply lines and pour bleach or vinegar into the valves and clean the new valve filters? I really don't want to go through the whole mold issue and have to throw away clothes again. Any advice would greatly appreciated. Thank you!
