I've been with my current employer almost 4 months. I have a 6 month probation period. I work rotating 12 hr shifts. I had a work related injury approximately 5 weeks ago resulting in a broken wrist and sprained knee. I was taking the hit pretty good as my employer has been accommodating and I am still able to work full time. Unfortunately still having to work means everything takes immensely longer to do and it's exhausting. The medication I was put on made me ill and the doctor brushed it off. They take forever to schedule tests or go over results. All my free time is spent in physical thearpy or at doctor's appointments. As the healing process has dragged on my mental health has taken a turn for the worse. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in my early 20s. I am not medicated. It affects my everyday life. I am usually pretty good at masking it. I have an appointment next week with my doctor to discuss. Should I inform my workers comp case nurse manger and my work nurse of my mental health in the chance that it worsens and affects my work? The rotating schedule is exacerbating my mental heath which is impeding my healing. My main concern is I will have another breakdown and be unable to care for myself at all. If I lose this job I lose my health insurance and have to start the process of obtaining help for my condition from the beginning again. Please, I'm looking to you all for some guidance during these rough times. I know there is so much stigma around mental health. I just want to do the right thing for myself but not jeopardize what I have.
