i'm confused about part ii. i feel like a pulled this out of my ass. i've tried rewriting the discriminant to show that for every real value of k, the discriminant in greater than 0 therefore meaning that there cannot be two equal roots. is this even right? should i specify why a squared bracket will always be positive? i'm so gonna fail my exams

i’m 18, i’ve been straightening my hair twice a week since i was 16. i’m at a stage in my life where i simply don’t have the time to do this. i’m also noticing that my hair is starting to become affected. it’s not terrible, i really moisturise my hair. but, my hair by my cheeks/ears is extremely fried. it’s scaring me a bit. for context, i got my curly hair from my mixed-race dad. so i’m white, with curly hair. i don’t have extremely tight curls or wavy hair like i see most people who get treatments done. i’m willing to straighten the regrowth. what should i be considering whilst doing this? if i don’t get it done, i will just keep using heat. i’m in the uk.
