23 year old trying to get into LIUNA as a labourer — what’s the best way in?

Hey everyone,

I’m a 23 year old male from the GTA trying to figure out the best way to get into LIUNA as a labourer. I’m willing to work hard and start from the bottom, I just honestly don’t know the best route to take to actually get my foot in the door.

I’ve heard different things from different people
some say apply directly to the union hall, others say try to get hired by a company first and get sponsored in. I’m trying to figure out what actually works best in 2026.

For people already in the union:

What’s the best way to get in right now?
Is it easier to get hired by a company first and then join the union?
What kinds of companies usually hire new labourers with little or no experience?
Where do you even find these companies hiring?
Is it better to call the hall or show up in person?
Are there any certifications/tickets that would help me stand out?

Any advice you wish someone gave you before joining?
I’m seriously motivated to make this a career.

I’m reliable, willing to learn, and not afraid of hard work

I just need some guidance on the best path to take.
Appreciate any advice, thanks guys.
