I wanted to get some clarity on something because this genuinely confused me.
I recently reached out to a seller who posted a bag for rehoming, and I was ready to pay. But I was told they wouldn’t sell to me because I have “low karma.”
I understand sellers wanting to protect themselves, especially in this space but at the same time, as a buyer, I’m the one sending money first to someone I don’t know. There’s risk on both sides.
What I don’t fully understand is: if a listing is posted publicly, is it actually open to everyone? Or is there an unspoken rule that only certain accounts (like high karma or established users) are considered?
If that’s the case, wouldn’t it make more sense to either:
clearly state karma requirements upfront, or
keep sales within private groups or trusted circles?
I’m not trying to call anyone out and just trying to understand how this works, especially for newer users who are genuinely interested in buying but might not meet these informal criteria.
Would appreciate hearing how others approach this or if this is a common standard I just wasn’t aware of.
