We just had a new Steibel Eltron WW 302 heat pump water heater installed.

The installers cracked an internal threaded plastic pipe that drains water from the AC condenser. We think they cranked too hard when attaching a brass fitting to the plastic pipe. It leaked.

They came back the next day, and the guy inserted a smaller pipe (about half of internal diameter) that sleeves very loosely into the original cracked plastic pipe. The smaller pipe was sealed in with silicone caulk.

Is this an acceptable repair?

How long do we expect silicone to last?

Would it be unreasonable to ask for a replacement unit?
