Every so often you see lovely artwork of heretic sisters and they generally take the aesthetic of the heretic legions. It led me to wonder how would I make each major order visually distinct since at the moment it's all very uniform outside of heraldry and colours.
At the moment I've only got 4/6 and im a bit stuck on the Roses.
Order of the Ebon Chalice: as the exemplar order, I'd say they get the least change. Maybe more robes and hooded helmets (okay maybe a bit too dark angels! But with less surplices)
Order of the Valorous Heart: Full darkest dungeon/trench crusade! With their love of pain, I'd expect chains around gauntlets, thorn imagery, thorn crowns, inverted halos so the spikes point inwards, iron Maiden masks and iron spikes.
Order of Our Martyred Lady: since they're so dedicated to the cult of martyrdom, I figured just fill them up with memento mori's! More skulls! More bones on armour, skull face plates, carrying around skeletons ala the BT Marshall, or maybe even a bit of day of the dead aesthetics?
Order of the Argent Shroud: being a bit too literal i initially thought, head scarves, burqa, or head wraps ala shogun 2's warrior nuns. But then thinking of how they're silent but deadly i thought being the most tacticool order would suit better- so lots of scopes, lenses, or even the blank faceplate like PiousMini's helmets.
Finally with the orders of the bloody and sacred rose... I'm not too sure myself. Bloody rose i thought putting vox grills on everyone so they can really blast out their angry hymms would be suitable, but thats not much.
With sacred rose I though alot more incensors, lots of smoke, petals, and thuribles. But again that's not much.
How would you make each order visually distinct and give them their own 'astartes founding chapter unique aesthetic'?
