Challenge twists that were basically unfair

I’m on a rewatch and in season 5, episode 2 they had the models shop for fabric and trim (and it had to be eco-friendly). I’m down for a twist but this seems insane. How would the models know how much yardage you need, the right fabrics, thread, closures, etc?

What are other challenge stipulations/parameters you think were over the top?

Early season contestants using already made clothes as a pattern

Has anyone else realized that there was a major rule change somewhere along the line?

When Twin 1 gets booted for cheating, Tim makes it clear measuring clothes for patterns is strictly prohibited both in and out of the work room. (The no books, no work outside allotted time goes back to season 2-ish when some forgettable guy is booted). However, early seasons, specifically men’s wear challenges are rife with designers (mostly men) using their own clothes as patterns. Doesn’t seem like blatant cheating? Tim says (even in early seasons), you can only use patterns you have down by memory.
