Hello everyone,

I develop the Uhthoff phenomenon quite quickly due to a relatively recent optic neuritis. I’ve spent the last hour browsing through older posts, but unfortunately didn’t really find what I was looking for. I’ve read about cooling vests, neck coolers, etc.— AI even mentions cooling vests with motors. Are there any products that are reliable enough to prevent Uhthoff (especially affecting the eye) from occurring in the first place? Or are there ones that cool you down quickly enough to keep it under control once it has already started?

I already experience it with warm meals, and of course during exercise and in the sun. What have your best experiences been? And how much do these things actually help in reality? It would obviously be a huge relief if you could just put on a vest and not have to worry so much anymore.

I was diagnosed with ms two weeks ago, and I feel like my life is over before it has even really begun. I’m 24, and after a lot of hard work I had finally found myself. Then my ON hit 3.5 months ago. I never really had a proper acute phase—just the Uhthoff phenomenon with every little thing. That’s why I didn’t get any steroids. Even when I just eat something, my vision gets worse. Thats the reason I can’t enjoy food anymore. I don’t know what to do. Life feels so much less worth living when you only see well an night because of body temp. And the best part: this might only be the beginning of this shitty disease. I used to absolutely love the sun and summer. I loved being outside, doing sports, and sweating. Now I wake up in the morning, the sun is shining, and all I can think about is my eye—and the next passion that MS will take from me. Whether it’s today, tomorrow, or in a year. What kind of life is that going to be? And is there even still a chance that anything will improve with my eye?
