My name is Megan Inch - I’m a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of Edinburgh.
I’m also Autistic and have personal experience of burnout. I’m currently conducting a research project on young people's (16-25 years old) experiences of Autistic Burnout, and I'm at the recruitment stage.
Most of my clinical experience is within CAMHS, and a key issue at the moment is thinking about how mental health clinicians can better support Autistic young people when they are feeling burnt out. At the moment, most of the burnout research is based on neurotypical people or Autistic adults, so I’m trying to focus on younger people's perspectives.
I’ve attached the recruitment poster and can offer a Microsoft Teams meeting for research participants.
I have sponsorship and ethical approval from the University of Edinburgh.
Before finalising the research topic, I’ve sought feedback from autistic young people to shape the research question, aims, and design, to help ensure it's a topic that feels important to the neurodivergent community.
What does the study involve: 60 min interview completed online, with an Autistic researcher with lived experience of Burnout
Who can take part: Aged 16 – 25 years old • Self identify as Autistic or have a Formal Diagnosis of Autism and/or AuDHD • Experienced what you consider “burnout” and are willing to share your experiences. • Fluent in the English Language.
Currently, I have a lot of females aged 20-25 who are interested in participating, but it would be great to hear from males, non-binary folks, and people aged 16-20 to get a variety of perspectives. If you're interested in sharing your experiences to help inform mental health services within the UK, please get in touch or sign up using the link or QR code.
