An ugly watch I'll always love

This is my Casio G-Shock GA-110, a gift from my favorite Ninang eleven years ago (2015).

It has been through more than I can count, and yet it remains as dependable as ever. Aside from three battery changes over the span of more than a decade, it has asked for virtually nothing in return. No fuss, no drama, just unwavering reliability.

Over time, I’ve gone deeper into watch collecting and have acquired pieces that are far more expensive, refined, and conventionally beautiful. Yet this is the watch that truly started it all for me. Despite already owning a few pieces gifted by my mom back then, including two Rolex Lady-Datejust 26 models, a Rolex Lady-Datejust 28, two Rolex Datejust 31 units, an Omega Constellation, and a TAG Heuer Aquaracer ref. WAF1414, it was this G-Shock from my Ninang that made me appreciate watches not merely as accessories, but as objects with stories, character, and enduring purpose. In fact, those aforementioned lady-sized watches gifted by my mom are just kept inside one of my watch boxes because I've developed my own taste and now prefer men's watches, thanks to this G-Shock GA-110 and the legibility offered by larger dials.

It may not be the most beautiful piece in my collection, but it is undoubtedly one of the most meaningful, and without question, one of the toughest. And yes, it is an ugly watch I will always love.
