UPDATE! I’m going to be a grandma! Jerk is a mama!

Yesterday I posted how my big yellow mystery snail had escaped and been missing for 4-5 days. I found her in the door track behind the tanks and plopped her back in.

Well, I created a snail tank with a snug lid and look what I woke up to! I caught her and the big blue mystery snail in a compromising position a couple weeks ago but I’m new to mystery snails and have seen them crawling all over each other all the time!

So now what do I do?? I definitely need a bigger tank for that many snails!

This jerk…

I’ve had this jerk for over a month now. It came with a 5 gallon cube tank I bought on marketplace. It also included a blue one about this size and a netrite.

The tank they were in looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in forty years so I immediately put them in my planted 40 gallon that I’d just checked the perimeters on. They were perfect so I thought they’d be happy with clean water and plants for a change. I even dropped in a couple algae wafers.

Jump ahead a week and it’s gone. I mean gone gone. Looked everywhere. Since my tanks are backed up again a sliding door we don’t use it’s next to impossible to see behind them. I looked for this big ol bitty for 5 days. I finally ended up emptying 3/4 of my smallest tank so I could look behind them all. Behold. There she was in the track of the door all dried and crusty amongst the cobwebs. I knew she was a goner. The only way I could get to her was to scoot her with a broom handle to the end of the track and grab her with my tongs. I had read all the info on lost snails and it said when you find them to give them a sniff. So I did. It had no smell so I plunked it back in the tank. I stood and watched. In about 20-30 minutes she had opened up and was happily cruising around. She had a couple minor chips on the shell opening but otherwise she was fine. Blows my mind! I’ve now made a snail tank with a secure lid and left 3” of space above the waterline.

In the pic the blue one was on top of her. Is this snail whoopy?😂

Florida Pest Control

We live on an acreage about an hour south of Orlando, Florida. I’m originally from the Midwest and have always loved snakes. I just wanted to share some of the pics I’ve taken of our visitors.

I never handle a wild snake unless I’m rescuing it. These wild corn snakes love to climb our chain link fence for some reason which makes them easy pickings for our birds of prey. I just get them off the fence and relocate. We’re surrounded on three sides by a protected swamp and two undeveloped lots. I’m always finding black racer sheds and have started using them to make jewelry.

ID help please (Grant, Florida)

This pic was taken about 5 years ago. It’s me helping a turtle/tortoise to the other side of the street (it was in the middle of the road). I’ve done this forever but I’ve always been able to ID them (mainly red ear sliders or gopher tortoises). I’m located on an acreage about an hour south of Orlando, FL.

Florida rain water with a bonus!

We live on an acreage near the space coast in Florida. I’ve always kept several large rain barrels to collect water for my plants. They love it and really thrive. I’ve started using it in all my tanks and the fish love it, too. This morning I just needed a small amount to top off a 5 gallon tank so I used this blue sand bucket. I couldn’t believe my eyes! LIVE BLOOD WORMS! My betta thought they were delicious! Now I’m just waiting for mosquito season! They love mosquito larvae, too.

(I wish I’d have used a white container. Their red color doesn’t show up against blue.)
