Everything was fine until I tried to install Steam and Nvidia drivers

Installed MX 25.1 AHS and had everything running fine then I bricked my system trying to install Nvidia drivers. Frantically trying to fix it just messed things up worse.

After many attempts I was able to get the open source driver working but no luck getting Nvidia drivers working. The open source driver won't keep my displays on, the only way to get them back is to unplug and plug back in.

Seems like this install is just fundamentally broken and I suspect my bootable USB may be corrupted. I could try troubleshooting more but I'm thinking I should redownload the iso and reflash for a fresh install and start from there.

I'm at work rn reading and bookmarking threads in the mx forum and I think I have the information I need to get the Nvidia drivers working again.

What I'd like to ask is: Should I even bother with all this? I really liked the XFCE desktop and the way MX is set up but it seems like Nvidia drivers are very troublesome with Debian based distros from what I've been reading users have had similar issues with Nvidia driver for a decade plus.

I pretty much use my PC for 3 things, digital drawing, audio editing and gaming. Gaming is the least important but not something I'm willing to give up just to run a specific distro. MX had everything else I want but getting Steam working with an Nvidia GPU seems like a total headache. However, I'm not entirely convinced I wouldn't run into the same issues with a different distro. So I'm not really sure what to do next.

Would more experienced users suggest I tough it out and go through the process of reinstalling and trying again or would I be better off abandoning my desire to stick with MX?

Installed MX 25 last night. First Linux install. Had some hiccups but I managed to get everything working right with some reading and patience. The terminal is my best friend now. Going to tinker more after work.
