I am planning on providing internet to my rental unit located next door. I have an Omada system in my home (ER7206, SG2218P, EAP670 and OC220). I have 3 runs of Cat6 between the two houses (within the distance limitation) and a VLAN set up for the rental. My house is 1200 sqft and the EAP670 ceiling mounted upstairs centrally located gives me basement signals between -48 and -60dbm - which is good enough for my IoT devices in the basement.

The rental house is a 1200 sqft raised bungalow with a fully finished basement (except for the utility room). There will be people living full time upstairs and their inlaw living downstairs - so wifi coverage throughout the house is a must. I'm thinking of placing a root AP upstairs and a wireless mesh AP downstairs.

The house is constructed of wood, drywall, vinyl siding and a poured concrete basement. The ceiling height in the basement is 7.5 ft (4 ft of that is concrete).

QUESTIONS

  1. Is there an EAP (single unit) that will provide coverage for the entire house?

  2. If I have to place two APs as a mesh system, what units would be best to purchase

  3. Does the Omada Mesh setup have any glitches?

  4. I have 3 CAT6 cables available so I could connect both APs to the switch. Can you set up the two APs to the same SSID/password combination.

  5. Which setup would you recommend? (One wired AP, one wireless mesh AP.... or both wired back to the switch and set to the same SSID)
