Hello!
Not used to posting on reddit at all, but I figure this would be the exact place for hands-on experience with accessible design.
My boyfriend and I just bought a home, and we're in the process of completely renovating the kitchen and two bathrooms. This gives us the opportunity to make the kitchen and other areas more suited to his needs, so we're trying to do this right the first time (especially with how expensive cabinets can be)
Anyways, we have two designs that we're currently bouncing between:
The first, image one, has the fridge directly next to the pantry. Visually, we agree this is the most appealing, but there are concerns regarding the pantry and fridge being beside one another.
The second, image two, has the counter between the pantry and fridge. My boyfriend is thinking that having a countertop immediately beside food storage would make bringing in groceries easier.
Image three depicts the layout of the kitchen, with image four being how a "back-and-forth" movement to and from the most readily available countertop might be performed. Would anyone happen to know if the black path or the blue path is easier to perform whilst holding common grocery items? My boyfriend is fairly new to using a wheelchair, otherwise we'd have more established info on which path would be easiest!
Other suggestions on how to approach making this kitchen accessible are also greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
