Colonoscopy prep does not seem to be working-what else can I take?
I had a screening colonoscopy 5 years ago and didn't have any problems with the prep. I had a diagnostic one a year ago after ending up in the emergency department with a horrible gut ache, nausea/vomiting and bloody diarrhea. The GI doctor thought it was ulcerative colitis and colon was biopsied for areas of inflammation but it came back normal. All other tests were normal and the only thing I can come up with was an intestinal infection that cleared up after antibiotics.
The diagnostic colonoscopy last year the prep didn't work well and they wanted to repeat it now. I have begged the doctor's nurse to have a stronger prep because my slow gut motility makes it hard to clean out. But she blows me off like I'm exaggerating even though the test last year wasn't complete.
I have been on a low residue diet for a week, and taking miralax 2 times a day. Today was clear liquids only and I took two Dulcolax at 2:30 p.m., Clenpiq at 5:30 p.m. 30 minutes in I had a small amount of liquid stool, then gurgling and rumbling and 2 hours in all is quiet nothing else has happened and feels like it all over.
I have another dose of Clenpiq scheduled at 2 a.m. tomorrow but I have PTSD over this stress of not being cleaned out again. Can I add on 2 Dulcolax? When I called the on call last year I was told to "give it time"...I have been there and done that and it doesn't work!!! So freaking aggravating.
