I have an old Nikon D5100 with a Nikkor 50mm 1.8G. I absolutely love this camera and the images that it produces. The lens produces heavy chromatic aberration under bright backgrounds, but I can somewhat fix that in Lightroom. Overall, I am very happy with body+lens combo, even in 2026 (when it works).

I shoot mostly at f2-2.2. The only problem that I face is the autofocus performance. It misses more often than not and struggles in low light. Sometimes it just keeps hunting focus, and I miss the moment. The other times, they look fine on the small camera display but appear blurry on a bigger screen.

I do not have much knowledge about newer cameras. Do you think a better lens will fix this problem, or should I just invest in a newer camera system?
