The Voice Van Vlaanderen - Big Battles Ranked
From the same version of The Voice that brought us amazing battles like Reza & Ward’s “Unholy,” Ilias & Laura’s “If The World Was Ending,” and many more, another season of battles has concluded. This year introduced a new format, replacing the traditional battles and knockouts with the big battles to be followed by the cross battles. The coaches weren’t restricted to a set number of artists in the blinds, but they had to narrow it down to six per team by the end of this round. Each artist on their team was then paired in groups of 2-4, with anywhere from no one to the entire group advancing. Here’s my ranking of the battles, with week 2 standing out especially (hence the tie for first place, as I couldn’t choose just one).
Week 1:
Ultimate Tier:
Michelle & Giorgio (Team Joost) - Sarà Perché Ti Amo by Ricchi E Poveri ——> Winners = Michelle & Giorgio (Plot twist as a duo though since Joost had already filled 5/6 spots so he cheated 😂)
Liuwa, Jens, Ricardo & Febe (Team Laura) - Feeling Good by Nina Simone ——> Winner = Liuwa (Jens & Ricardo were picked up by the comeback stage coaches but lost their battle there)
Top Tier:
Hafsa, Noëlle & Jasmine (Team Laura) - So Easy (To Fall In Love) by Olivia Dean ——> Winner = Hafsa
Doris, Marson & Yasmiene (Team Mathieu) - I Can’t Make You Love Me by Bonnie Rait ——> Winner = Marson
Middle Tier:
Lina, Marie-Hélène & Yaro (Team Laura) - Mamma Mia by ABBA ——> Winner = Yaro (Marie-Hélène was picked up by the comeback stage coaches and won her battle there)
Mike, Tobi & Julie (Team Mathieu) - In The Stars by Benson Boone ——> Winner = Mike
Ruth, Karry & Babs (Team Mathieu) - Creep by Radiohead ——> Winner = Karry
Silke, Abigail & Hanna (Team Joost) - How To Be A Heartbreaker by MARINA ——> Winner = Silke (Abigail was picked up by the comeback stage coaches and won her battle there)
Lower Tier:
Niels & 3 of a Kind (Team Koen) - Noodgeval by Goldband ——> Winner = Niels & 3 of a Kind
Yasmina, Ines, Lizabet & Renée (Team Koen) - Torn by Natalie Imbruglia ——> Winner = Ines (Lizabet was picked up by the comeback stage coaches and won her battle there)
Lara, Donatella & Naz (Team Mathieu) - Linger by The Cranberries ——> Winner = Naz
Johan & Maarten (Team Joost) -
Iedereen is van de wereld by The Scene ——> Winner = Maarten
Week 2:
Ultimate Tier:
Joris & Jeremy (Team Laura) - Boys Don’t Cry by Joseph Lawrence ——> Winners = Joris & Jeremy
Louise & Maëlle (Team Joost) - Mon Amour by Slimane ——> Winner = Maëlle (Louise was picked up by the comeback stage coaches but lost her battle there)
Top Tier:
Aïcha, Mirte & Norah (Team Laura) - Strange by Celeste ——> Winner = Aïcha
Sea, Jean & Rebecca (Team Joost) - Rumour Has It by Adele ——> Winners = Sea & Rebecca
Middle Tier:
Finn, Justine & Liza (Team Mathieu) - Do I Wanna Know by Arctic Monkeys ——> Winners = Finn & Liza (Justine was picked up by the comeback stage coaches but lost her battle there)
Bas & Max (Team Koen) - Next Summer by Damiano David ——> Winner = Bas
Pieter & Tetiana (Team Koen) - 9 Crimes by Damien Rice ——> Winner = None
Lower Tier:
Paulien, Matthew & Ibe (Team Joost) - Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus ——> Winner = None
Wim & Tokie (Team Koen) - Die With A Smile by Bruno Mars & Lady Gaga ——> Winner = Wim & Tokie
Vicky, Terry & Brecht (Team Koen) - Het Midden by Pommelien Thijs & MEAU ——> Winner = None
Sofian & Jamaica (Team Laura) -Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell ——> Winner = None
If I had to choose my ultimate favorite artist going into the next round, it would have to be a tie between Maëlle (Team Joost) and Jeremy (Team Laura) so they better not pair them up for the cross battles or I’ll riot. If you’ve made it this far, I’m also here to suggest that if you’re not already following one of the most underrated versions of The Voice, the big battles are a good place to start. I don’t usually make long comments or reactions but loved this edition of the battles and this version of the voice isn’t talked about enough, I may be back to rank the cross battles once they’re complete or may not but felt like these big battles had to be talked about.
