15 month old EMW and nap schedule
Hi!
My 15 month old attends a small family daycare where the nap times are set. There is zero flexibility in timing until he can drop to one nap. He has always been on the lower end of sleep needs. In order to get him to sleep through the night around 8 months old we pushed his bedtime to 8pm with a last wake window of 4.5-5 hours depending on when he woke up from his afternoon nap, and since we did that he was sleeping from 8pm-6 or 6:30 AM.
Over the last month or so, he’s been waking around 5:30. We will leave him in his crib till 6:30 because he’s happy and he’s closing his eyes usually but restless and moving around. Then by the time morning nap comes, he’s understandably exhausted so daycare won’t try and drop the morning nap. We went on vacation a few weeks ago and had a one nap day where he slept 12 hours overnight and was super happy so I think he’s ready. How do I go about getting him on a one nap schedule if daycare won’t work with me when he wakes this early? She said she’d like to see him wake around 7 am to make it to afternoon nap.
His current M-F schedule, weekends naps are usually shifted about 30 minutes later and morning nap is sometimes one hour on the weekends.
Wake 5:30-6
Nap 1: 9:15-10
Nap 2: 1:30-3:15
Bedtime: 8
Afternoon nap is set timing at his daycare, but she said she would put him down at one if he needed once he’s on one nap. I have a week in August where daycare is closed that I could transition him then but given that it’s three months away I worry wake time is going to keep getting earlier. Again, he’s not unhappy hanging in his crib in the morning but he’s just very tired by morning nap.
Should I push bedtime back? Or on weekends try to do one nap? Any and all advice welcome!
