Hs ball has changed a lot since I played . Father coaches, fathers padding game changer stats. Coaches son making 3 errors a game at shortstop while a college committed shortstop sits every game. Being behind the plate I observe more than balls and strikes . It has turned into little league all over again . Daddy ball has no place in high school sports. Politics has no place in High school sports. I have seen the same group of travel team kids be the varsity starters time and time again. Usually 1-2 out of the 9 are actually any good. Playing time should be earned at the high school level. Just because you were on the championship little league team and your hs coach is friends with your travel team coach doesn’t mean you should start . A lot of coaches are doing a disservice to these kids . Have a real tryout, take a kid off the bench and give him an inning. You’re not doing your so called all star short stop who’s averaging 3 errors and 2 strikeouts a game any favors by letting him play the entire game because of politics. Do better people. A high school coach should not be allowed to coach a travel ball team. Nepotism has no place in high school baseball. Just some observations I have made over the years . Have a good day .
