We have been informed that the City of Chicago recently changed the law in regards to propane grills on decks in apartment buildings in Chicago and that they are no longer legal.

Is this accurate? I am having trouble finding anything in the City Code that explicitly says this.

I took the Red Line this morning from Morse. When I got on there was already a man on the train who immediately started verbally harassing a passenger that chose to sit across from him. This passenger ignored him and moved to the next car when the train stopped at Loyola. This pattern continued and he harassed and insulted anyone who got near him in the next stops. People generally quickly moved away but as the train became more crowded, this became harder. His harassment and insults then turned to threats, including threats of violence. He kept saying that he was going to have to kill someone. It got to the point where it felt like a legitimate threat. The person nearest the call box pushed the button to flag the operator but there was no answer. I tried calling 911, but the person on the phone said they could not do anything until the train was stopped at a station and the operator was aware, but we couldn’t do that if the operator would not respond to the emergency box, or it was broken.

In the end nothing happened as of the time I got off the train except another passenger began argue with the man.

There seem to be major gaps in CTA security which makes it very difficult to actually report a potentially violent situation. The only thing that may have worked was if someone ran to the front of the train to tell the operator in person, but this was the last car. A person probably would not be able to make it to the front in time.

I personally think CTA needs to have a text based emergency alert system that would allow people to covertly report incidents.
