First time homeschooler
We are getting ready to homeschool our first time for 4th grade. I am really struggling with picking a curriculum. Every time I think I figure it out, I come across bad reviews and start thinking it’s not a good fit.
Situation: I work full time from home Monday-Friday 8-5. I work for a company, not for myself. It’s busy and not super flexible. So I’ve been trying to find something my daughter can do more independently. I can and will supplement teaching whenever I need to but I really want something she can do herself as much as possible while I work.
I started with Acellus, then thought maybe I should just a workbook style like Christian Light, then thought about Mia Academy after seeing glowing influencers reviews 🙄 only to realize that there are actually mixed reviews with one saying it out her kids behind.
We are already 1 grade behind and that is the last thing I want to do…get her more behind. Needless to say, I’m torn and feel like I have no idea what to do at this point. I like the idea of an online program with a mixture of pen to paper activities also…which is what initially drew me to Mia. We are also Christian and I honestly don’t want anything too secular. Honestly, one of the MANY reason I’m removing her from public school is to prevent some of the indoctrination going on…so I sure don’t want our online program having agendas.
I would really love some useful advice if you have any…especially related to curriculum. Ultimately I would like to get her ahead to her correct grade, just in case we ever do decide to return to public or private school.
