There have been headlines for years about scientists trying to figure out how to "grow" synthetic ivory, that would have the same chemical composition as the natural (and rightfully illegal) stuff.

Has any of this been developed to a point that it's been brought to market?

I've been able to find rods of "synthetic ivory" and "ivory substitute" for sale on Amazon, but it's not clear whether they're "real" ivory that's been lab-grown, or an entirely different synthetic material that's just designed to resemble ivory in appearance and weight/hardness.
