I apologize if this isn't exactly the right sub, but you guys know your wood.

I am helping some family and building a Catio in their back yard.

We would like to use a fallen sycamore branch as a post and support for various cat platforms and a natural look.

I was thinking I would dry pour a base of quickcrete about 18-24" deep like a fence post.

The branches are in good condition, fallen and cut about a year ago. Bark falls off to light peeling and we will likely debark the final selection.

Do you forsee any issues with this? How might it age?

I had planned on setting the branch and pouring around it, so the end grain would be exposed to earth. Would it be better to pour a disk first and limit the end grain exposure?

Let me know your thoughts!
