I am a recent grad with a Masters in Aerospace Engineering, but as I was looking for jobs, I got an offer as a field engineer on a data center project and took it. It’s my first full-time job and I’m in my mid-20s. Because my degrees before were unrelated, I have no clue what the usual path for someone starting off in the industry as a field engineer would be. I see a lot of admin work (submittals, schedule, vplans, talking to vendors, doing the lug schedule…) and also field work (measuring, checking stuff), but predominantly admin, and I see that I am usually working under a PM. Long story short, it seems like a lot of hats to wear, and bcs of that I am a little confused what the usual path for a field engineer is.

From someone that has started as a field engineer, what was your path (promotions, job titles etc)? For context, I work for an electrical contractor.
